CERRITOS, CA -- The American Diabetes Association and the National Father's Day Council will celebrate the 101th anniversary of Father’s Day by honoring John Kao, president of CareMore Medical Enterprises, at the annual Father of the Year Awards on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

In his role as President of CareMore Medical Enterprises, the Cerritos-based management services company overseeing the CareMore group of companies, Kao has been strong industry and community advocate for diabetes care and prevention. CareMore is a healthcare delivery system serving the needs of seniors in 8 markets throughout CA, AZ, and NV, including over 50,000 seniors and 12,000 senior diabetics. He also serves on the Boards of Directors at Gerinet Health Services, the Board of Directors of Preferred Diagnostic Imaging Inc., and is Chairman of the Board of Elders at Mariners Church in Irvine, CA.

“The American Diabetes Association is proud to honor John as Father of the Year,” said Russ McClellan, Chair of the American Diabetes Association Los Angeles Community Leadership Board. “He not only is a hugely successful businessman, but a wonderful father committed to the movement to stop diabetes.”

This year’s Los Angeles honorees also include actor, producer, writer and director Paul Sorvino and Dr. Kevin Kaiserman, President of ADA Community Leadership Board and one of “San Fernando Valley’s Best Doctors”. All proceeds from the event benefit the American Diabetes Association.

The gala event features heartwarming tribute videos of each honoree, remarks by family members, and the presentation of the golden Father of the Year Award statuette. Honors are accepted before an audience of the honorees close friends, family, colleagues, and other supporters of the American Diabetes Association.

“All of us at CareMore join in the honor of John’s accomplishments and his dedication to improve diabetes education, treatment and prevention,” said Leeba Lessin, president and CEO of CareMore Health Plan. “His leadership inspires us all to do more for our community and for our diabetic members.”

Diabetes is one of the nation’s deadliest diseases, and there is no cure. Nearly 26 million Americans have diabetes, and another person is diagnosed every 20 seconds. In Los Angeles, one in every ten adults suffers from diabetes. Diabetes can lead to serious complications and premature death, but with early diagnosis and treatment, preventive measures can be taken to manage the disease.
